MEMBERS of Mullaghban Community Safety Group, in conjunction with the PSNI, say they intercepted an attempted robbery at mushroom houses on the Longfield Road, Forkhill, this week.
Just after midday on Tuesday, August 6, two men are allged to have gained entry to the premises. One man was detained by the community volunteers at the scene until the police arrived.
The actions of members of Mullaghban Community Safety Group has been praised by local Councillor Anthony Flynn.
“This incident demonstrates the value of members of the community being involved in community safety,” he said. “It is thanks to the quick thinking, bravery and local connections of the members of the safety group that this robbery was stopped in its tracks.
“It is great to see community representatives and the PSNI working in conjunction for the good of our society and I hope that this respectful working relationship can continue.”
Councillor Flynn also praised the actions of the police who responded quickly to alerts of the incident.
“The police have done a good job on this occasion and that must be commended. Any activity which improves personal safety and the security of homes and businesses is to be welcomed.”
