Significant increase in sheep prices

SHEEP prices took another significant increase at Markethill yesterday (Wednesday), with heavy hoggets selling to £92.50 each.

Several pens sold in excess of £90 each. In all, 370 heavy hoggets averaged 25.1 kilos @ £89.30 each (355). All suitable pens sold from 350p to 378p per kilo with a top of 384p per kilo for 24 kilos @ £92.20 each.

Suitable Middleweights reached 372p per kilo for 23 kilos @ £85.50 each. Main demand sold from 350p to 364p per kilo for 19.5 kilos @ £71 each.

Good quality Cull Ewes sold from £70 to £89 each with 2nds from £50 to £65 each.

In the Breeding ring, top quality doubles sold to £252 with several more from £190 to £242 each. Singles sold to £186 with others from £140 to £177 each.
