A road in south Armagh is to be checked on an “ad-hoc” basis to determine the “appropriate course of action” in regards to subsidence.
The Longfield Road is a heavily travelled route running from Forkhill to the Crossmaglen Road near Lislea.
MLA for Newry and Armagh, Justin McNulty recently brought the road to the attention of Minister for Infrastructure, Liz Kimmins as an area in dire need of upgrade.
The SDLP representative asked the Minister whether the carriageway had been considered for reconstruction near the junction with Forest Road.
In this area, he says subsidence has resulted in the formation of “ramps and dips” and also asked whether “appropriate warning signs” could be erected at the location.
In response, Minister Kimmins explained that officials are currently considering the 2026/27 programme of works, details of which will be included in her Department’s 2026/27 annual report to Council.
However, the Minister noted that the programmes cannot be finalised until such times as budgets are confirmed.
That being said Minister Kimmins noted that she had requested that an “ad-hoc inspection” of the Longfield Road be undertaken to determine the most appropriate course of action in relation to the reported subsidence.
This will be kept under review.
