Plans for an exciting new community centre in Camlough have been given the green light by planners.
The development – which has been a number of years in the pipeline – has crossed a huge hurdle with funding now the main priority for the Camlough Community Association, who are behind the plans.
The centre, which ill incorporate a multi-purpose hall, will be located on a site known locally as the ‘Acre Field’, to the rear of numbers 17 to 25 Main Street and will provide a new focal location in the village.
The application refers to the proposed venue as the John Doyle Community Centre.
Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis welcomed the approval.
The Slieve Gullion Councillor said: “After much work between the community association and myself as the local Councillor I am delighted to see the plans for this project be approved.
“The community of Camlough have been waiting on this news for a long time and this much needed facility is long overdue.
“The next phase of the project will involve working closely with the community association and the council to try and draw down funding to help us begin the building process.
“By working together we can help to build a first class facility for the people of Camlough.”
