A Co Armagh mother-of-four, diagnosed with a terminal cancer last July, is continuing to defy the odds and is hopeful of receiving alternative treatments in Mexico next month.
Tracey Crossan, a talented glass artist from Ballymoyer in south Armagh, was living a normal life with her husband Dominic and four children, Oonagh (17), Fiachra (15), Sarah (14) and Fianna (14).
However, on the morning of July 1, 2023, after a prolong period with Covid, Tracey underwent a colonoscopy to be told that they had found something untoward, that it was very likely cancerous. She was then referred to the oncology team at Craigavon Hospital.
The outcome was not what Tracey, or her family, wanted to hear.
Their lives were shattered.
Tracey – a seemingly healthy 49-year-old woman – received the devastating news that she had Stage 4 terminal colon cancer, which had rapidly spread to other organs, and was non operable.
Tracey was given a life expectancy of 3-6 months, without treatment, and 6-9 months with treatment.
Tracey was determined to fight and fight she has.
Despite the bleak outlook, there remains hope and her friends and family – Tracey included – are not giving up hope, which is why they have set up a GoFundMe page to help Tracey travel to Mexico, where she can avail of specialist alternative treatment at Hope4Cancer.
“Tracey and Dominic have always been the first people to step up to help others in their times of need and we vow to show them the same love and support,” reads the GoFundMe page.
So far the friends and family have raised an incredible £67,000.
With all clinical trial inclusions exhausted – hopes dashed – Mexico is the one last option on the table, “something to hang their coats on”.
Hope4Cancer offers patients an intensive regime of treatments over a period of three weeks. Six days a week with Sunday off, 9am to 6pm each day.
Each treatment plan is tailored to each patient’s cancer and their specific needs in tackling that cancer specifically. They look at cancer from the inside out, identifying the source of the cancer in the body and why it mutated in the first place.
Tracey will fly to Mexico on August 5 with her life long-friend, Tracey Gallogly, to start treatment on August 7. They will remain in Tijuana for almost four weeks, finishing treatment before coming home on August 29.
