Concerns after another arson attack on house in Cullyhanna

Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at a house in south Armagh in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Two appliances from Newtownhamilton station were tasked to the fire on the Skerriff Road in Cullyhanna in what is believed to have been a deliberate attack.

They used one hose reel jet and one CAF jet to extinguish the fire.

A NIFRS spokesperson told Armagh I the cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition and that the incident was dealt with by 4.05am.

Sinn Féin councillor Barra Ó Muirí strongly condemned the suspected arson attack.

“The fire brigade were called to the scene and they managed to extinguish the flames,” he explained.

“The property on the Skerriff Road was unoccupied at the time and thankfully no-one was injured.

Concluding the Sinn Féin elected representative said: “Local people are rightly concerned at another arson attack incident in the area.”

Less than two months ago, a former commercial premises on the Tullynavall Road in Cullyhanna was set alight.

It was not the first time the premises had been targeted, after it was daubed with graffiti previously.
