A number of people were injured after reportedly being knocked over in the Meigh village in South Armagh late last night.
The scenes of anti-social behaviour, videos of which have been circulating on social media, have been branded “horrific”.
One local councillor is reporting that three people were deliberately knocked over by a car.
Independent councillor, Gavin Malone, said he was contacted by residents of the village and informed that a young girl was driving a car “dangerously and out of control” before “deliberately knocking down three individuals”.
“The local community completely condemn this behaviour and wish to prevent similar activity in the future in an effort to protect the youth of their village,” he said.
“I will email the relevant Director in the Council to ask them to instruct the District Electoral Area Co- ordinator to convene a meeting with the residents of Meigh and all other relevant Statutory Agencies to discuss this very serious matter and to develop an Anti Social Behaviour Action Plan to prevent similar activities in the future.
“My thoughts and sympathies go to the individuals who were knocked down and I wish them a speedy recovery.”
Sinn Féin MLA branded the scenes “disgraceful”.
“Sinn Féin representatives have been liaising with PSNI all morning in relation to the disgraceful scenes on the Railway Road in Meigh overnight,” said ms Kimmins.
“One arrest has been made and police are continuing to investigate the details of a number of videos that have been circulating on social media.
“A number of people were injured during the incidents and the terrible scenes have left local residents terrified in their own homes.
“This is totally unacceptable and must stop now. We are very lucky someone wasn’t killed as a result of this reckless behaviour.
“The Meigh Community should not have to put up with this week in week out, and we will continue to do all we can to put a stop to it.”
