Emergency services dealing with ‘significant’ gorse fire in south Armagh

Emergency services are currently dealing with a “significant” gorse fire in south Armagh this afternoon (Friday).

Approximately two to three acres of land are currently on fire on the Ballintemple Road, near Meigh.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a significant gorse fire at Ballintemple Road, Slieve Gullion Mountain.

“Six appliances and specialist wildfire resources are currently at the scene tackling two-three acres of gorse on fire.

“We are working alongside the Forest Service.

“Please avoid the area until further notice.”

There is no indication as to how the fire started at this stage.
