The funeral of a highly-respected and hugely popular father-of-four from Belleeks will take place on Wednesday morning.
Brendan Carr passed away on Saturday and news of his untimely death has filled an entire south Armagh community with a deep sense of sadness.
Brendan, late of Newry Road, was a much-loved father to Sarah, Anna, Jack and Ellen, as well as a devoted grandad of Sienna, a loving partner of Brenda and her children Pearse and Tirna, and the beloved son of Ann and the late Jimmy Carr; dear brother of Seamus, Helena Killen, Joanne Powell, Colleen Woods and James.
Tributes, tipping into the thousands, have been pouring in for a man described by many as “one of a kind”.
Brendan was known for his smile and a personality that made him a man whose company was enjoyed by so many.
The Mountain House – where Brendan was a neighbour and friend – said Brendan wore a “smile that lit up the bar as he walked in” – someone who will be sorely missed.
Brendan loved his sport. He was a massive Armagh supporter and involved himself in many events in the area.
Newry Triathlon club posted: “Our hearts are heavy as we express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brendan Carr. We share in your immense sadness during this difficult time. Brendan was a beloved and well-known figure in and around Camlough Lake. We will always remember Brendan’s contributions to our club and the lasting impact he made.”
Crooked Lake Triathlon added: “It’s with huge sadness that we extend our sincerest sympathy to the family and friends of one of the best, Brendan Carr. Just the loveliest fella, such a loss!”
Derramor Tyre Centre in Camlough said “Brendan always had a smile and was always helping someone somewhere”.
Adding: “A massive loss to the community; our thoughts and prayers go to Brendan’s family and friends during this very difficult and sad time.”
Belleek and District Vintage Club spoke of its sadness as losing “a great member” in Brendan who was “every man’s friend and he will be sorely missed in or club and community”.
Carrickcruppen GAA said they will remember Brendan’s “beaming smile” while others spoke of a “wonderful person with a big personality”.
Brendan, undoubtedly, had an infectious charm and was truly a friend to so many who had the pleasure of knowing him, however, his loss will be felt hardest at home by those who looked up to him as a devoted dad and loving partner and brother. We offer our condolences to Brendan’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Brendan’s remains are reposing at his late residence. A shuttle bus will be available from The Mountain House to the family home for the duration of the wake. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday, May 8, in The Church of the Good Shepherd, Cloughreagh, followed by burial in St. Malachy’s cemetery, Carrickcruppen.
The house is strictly private on the morning of the funeral only please.
