‘Heartbreak’ for south Armagh community after boy (10) drowns at house in Carlingford

A 10-year-old boy has died following a drowning incident at a house in Carlingford.

He has been named locally as Joshua Hill.

Gardaí were called to the scene on Thursday morning.

A Garda spokeswoman said: “The boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was pronounced dead.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroners Court.”

Newry and Armagh SDLP MLA Justin McNulty spoke on the tragedy and of the family involved.

“This tragedy is shocking and heartbreaking for the Hill family and for the communities of Killeavy and Carlingford.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Joshua’s parents Olivia and Peter, with his older brother Oliver and with the Hill and Mackin families and friends at this terrible time.‬

“I pray the families can summon the strength from somewhere to help them cope.

“I know they will have the full support of community and friends.
