The funeral details have been announced for a South Armagh man who died suddenly in New York last week.
Tributes have poured in for Damian Stanley, a father-of-two from Jonesborough, who passed away suddenly on Monday (December 9) in the USA.
It is understood that Damian was living in Queens at the time of his death. His remains were returned on Sunday by the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
According to a death notice, Damian was the “dear son of the late Sean RIP and Assumpta, beloved father of Seána and Tara, brother of Donna (Connolly), Martina (McGenity), Suzanne and Gerard.”
It add he, “Will be sadly missed by his partner Cecelia Lee, brothers in law Paul Connolly, Peter McGenity, Craig Peeke, his many nieces and nephews, great-nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.”
Damian’s remains will repose at his late home in Francis Jordan Park and will be open to visitors from 1pm today (Tuesday, December 17).
He will be removed tomorrow (Wednesday, December 18) at 12.15 for 1pm Reqiuem Mass in The Church of the Sacred Heart Jonesborough and will be live streamed via the Dromintee and Jonesborough Parish Facebook page.
He will be buried afterwards in Church Hill cemetery.
It is requested by the family that the house be kept private on the morning of the funeral, and donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
A number of tributes to Damian have been posted online prior to the funeral.
Among those was from Dromintee GAC, which counted Damian as a former underage player and club jersey sponsor.
They said: “The committee and members of Dromintee GAC send our deepest condolences to his mother Assumpta, daughters Seána and Tara, sisters Donna (Connolly), Martina (McGenity) and Suzanne, his brother Gerard, his partner Cecelia and entire Stanley family circle.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
Another tribute read: “I am so terribly sorry to have heard about Damian’s passing on Monday He was in such great form Saturday night. May his soul rest in peace condolences to Assumpta and all his family.”
A third said: “Damian’s free spirited, gentle soul will always be in our hearts. Condolences to all his family & friends.”
