Killeavy man accused of assaulting two women and man to go before Crown Court

A Killeavy man who is alleged to have assaulted two women and another man will face Crown Court proceedings next month.

The 30-year-old was also accused of causing damage to the rear windows of two Volkswagen Passats – all on the same day.

Kenneth McAteer, of St Moninna Park, appeared charged with threats to damage property, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, possession of Class A, possession of Class B and driving whilst disqualified at Newry Magistrates’ on Wednesday.

As the charges were read out, it was heard that all of the alleged offences occurred on February 22, of last year, on the Forest Road in Forkhill.

The defendant is accused of assaulting three named individuals – one male and two women – and it is also alleged he damaged the rear windows of two Volkswagen Passats .

Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, McAteer made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

The defendant was released on his own bail of £750 to appear before Newry Crown Court on November 26 for arraignment.
