Poyntzpass and Acton praised for community spirit as young and old unite for litter picks

Lord Mayor drops by to lend a helping hand as his party colleague says: 'A few hours work makes a huge difference - well done to all!'

Young and old alike have been rolling up their sleeves in Poyntzpass and Acton to help keep their areas clean.

They have been getting stuck in to take part in litter picks to take away the rubbish left behind and thrown down by the irresponsible few.

And on Saturday they received a helping hand from the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Kevin Savage.

He, along with SF party colleague Councillor BrĂ³na Haughey, were happy to don their hi-vis vests and get involved.

Councillor Haughey praised all who played their part.

She said: “The community spirit shown on Saturday was second to none!

“We welcomed volunteers from the Redmond O’Hanlon GAA Club, the Village Volunteers and people young and old.

“It was a great morning’s work with many of the local roads cleaned and tidied.

“We were also honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council, Kevin Savage who helped us with our litter pick.

“Litter picks are a great way to bring communities together and doing good for the environment at the same time.

“A few hours work makes a huge difference – well done to all!”
