
There is an ongoing security alert in south Armagh following the discovery of a suspicious object overnight.
Police are currently at the scene in the Slaibh Mor area of Mullaghbawn.
A public safety operation is currently in place following the report of the discovery of a suspicious device, shortly before 1am this morning, Friday, June 27.
Cordons are in place at the Junction of Tullymacreevey Road and Cranny Road and the public are advised to avoid the area at this time.
8.30AM update: A security alert in the Sliabh Mor area of Mullaghbawn has now ended.
All roads have now re-opened. Although the security alert has ended, police enquiries are continuing.
An update will be provided in due course.
Sinn Féin Cllr Aine Quinn has condemned those behind a suspect device which has caused disruption in the Slíabh Mor area in Mullaghbawn and described their actions as reckless.
The local Councillor said: “This reckless action has caused serious distress amongst the wider community as well as severe disruption”.
MLA for the area, Aoife Finnegan, commenting on the alert, said: “This alert is ongoing and the police are investigating the circumstances behind this incident. Those criminal gangs involved need to get off the backs of our local communities.Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area should report it.”
