Tributes paid to ‘an absolute lady’ following tragic passing in Cullyhanna

Tributes have been paid to “an absolute lady” following her tragic passing close to her home in Cullyhanna on Monday morning.

Nora Mackin, who was in her 70s, passed away after being struck by a car on the Tullynavall Road just before 9.30am.

Nora, who lived on the Tullynavall Road, has been described in her death notice as the loving wife of Stephen – the couple having celebrated 57 years of marriage earlier this year – and devoted mother to Martin, Maureen (Larkin), Fiona (Sims), and Kevin.

She was also a grandmother to Deirbhile, Pearse, Siofra, Shea, Adam, Leon, and Daithí, as well as sister to John, Kathleen (Leonard), Mary (McCreesh), and Chris (Conneally).

St Patrick’s GAA Club in Cullyhanna said: “The whole GAA community in Cullyhanna are saddened to hear of the passing of Nora. We send our deepest sympathies to the Mackin and Ryan families at this time.”

The spokesperson added: “The Mackin family have been longstanding supporters of our club for many years. We offer our prayers and support at this awful time. Nora, you were a lady and you will be sorely missed by everyone who knew you. RIP Nora.”

Crossmaglen Rangers also paid tribute: “Crossmaglen Rangers send our deepest condolences to Maureen, Peter (former player), Deirbhile, Pearse & Shea Larkin (former players and current Scór participants), Stephen, Martin, Fiona, Kevin, and the extended Mackin family on the sudden passing of your wife, mother, and Granny, Nora. We are thinking of you all. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”

Hundreds of tributes have been pouring in for a woman so highly regarded in her community and further afield.

A lovely, genuine lady, Nora has been spoken of with deep fondness.

One woman wrote: “Devastated for the Mackin family. Nora was an absolute lady and a pleasure to have known. Lots of stories were shared with us in our salon – Nora will be missed by us all.”

Another tribute spoke of a lovely photo of Nora, “capturing her friendly, fun-loving nature.”

“She was an angel, and we are forever indebted to her for everything she did to help our family over the last few years. She will be missed. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

The sentiment of being missed was shared by many – Nora left an indelible mark, making a lasting impact on so many she encountered.

May she rest in peace.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Murray Funeral Directors in due course.

Deeply regretted by her husband, sons, daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-law Peter and Nigel, daughter-in-law Paula, brother, sisters, and extended family.
