Two men have been charged with kidnapping after a man was bundled into a car in Silverbridge and later assaulted over the weekend.
Detectives investigating the incident, which happened on Saturday, February 17 have charged two men aged 39 and 45 with kidnapping, grievous bodily harm with intent and blackmail.
Both men are due to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court later today, Monday.
As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
It was reported the victim had been bundled into a car in Silverbridge at around tea-time on Saturday, taken to a different location and assaulted before being released.
Speaking on Sunday, a PSNI spokesperson said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who suffered facial injuries and as our enquiries progress, we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Carnally Road at around 5.25pm and saw anything which could assist us.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have any relevant dash-cam, CCTV or other video footage. The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1224 of 17/02/24.”
