“We are all so proud of you Dearbhail. You are an inspiration to us all, young and old alike. You dreamed big, you worked hard and you achieved a remarkable feat winning 3 Special Olympics medals!

“I commend your dedicated fans and supporters who travelled with you to LA and who kept us all updated on your wonderful achievements, capturing precious moments on video and camera. And also to Armagh volunteer Niamh Withers who looked after you every step of the way.

“There was also fantastic media coverage of the games and there were two things that all the commentators reporting on the Special Olympics agreed on – firstly that Dearbhail Savage was the smile, the personality and heart of Team Ireland, enjoying every minute of this once in a lifetime experience and greeting well wishes from around the world. Dearbhail was in her element, our own wee celebrity.

“The second thing that all the commentators agreed on, was that when Dearbhail Savage took to the Equestrian stage to compete, she done so with professionalism and determination. Dearbhail went for Gold and she came home with 2 gold medals and 1 silver, an amazing accomplishment.

“Dearbhail your mummy Karen and Daddy Mickey and entire family circle especially your Granda Vincy are beaming with pride as is everyone here tonight. We are all so proud of your achievements, you are Clady’s very own Gold Medalist. Well done and keep enjoying every minute of this experience. You are simply the best!!!!!!”
