A man armed with a knife held up staff at a Co Armagh cricket club before fleeing with the contents of the till.
The incident happened last night and has caused withspread shock in the tiny rural community where it happened.
Local DUP Councillor Gareth Wilson has condemned the incident at Laurelvale Cricket Club.
He told Armagh I : “This is a very concerning incident in what is a very quiet and peaceful rural village.
“Indeed, the cricket club is a very popular club with a rich history in the area, and of course it is a really important local resource.”
Councillor Wilson added: “Speaking to police and the club directly, I understand that a man armed with a knife demanded the takings from the till before running off with a sum of money.
“I am aware that an arrest has now been made and I want to praise both the club house staff and the police for their quick thinking and action.
“I am relieved no one was injured in this incident and I trust that those in the club who encountered the criminal in question, recover from the shock of this ordeal.”
