Police are advising the public not to buy goods from unscrupulous sources after a man was conned out of his hard-earned cash.
The reminder follows an incident where a member of the public was approached by a man in the Armagh Road area of Newry last Tuesday, April 14.
The man was offered an iPhone, iPad and laptop for £500.
After a bit of haggling, the two agreed to do business for 350 Euros and the seller placed the items into a rucksack type bag.
The money was handed over and the rucksack given to the buyer.
As the seller sped off from the area, the buyer found two bottles of water and a newspaper in the bag he received.
Constable Caroline Bell said: “If something sounds too good to be true it generally is. You are not protected if you buy from an unreputable source and we all work too hard for our money to just hand it over to someone else.
“If you are approached in this manner, please take details of the seller and any vehicles and report it immediately to us on 101.”
