Strong trade at Newtownhamilton

ANOTHER packed yard of stock sold in a very strong trade at the Fane Valley Mart in Newtownhamilton on Saturday, March 30.

The heifer ring was again the busiest section with close to 200 quality lots on offer. Demand was keen with a batch of choice Limousin heifers from an Armaghbreague producer selling to £1280 for 600 kgs with £1120 for 600 kgs, £1070 for 520 kgs, £1070 for 560 kgs and £895 for 460 kgs. 

Saler heifers from the same farm sold to £1115 for 580 kgs, £1070 for 560 kgs and £1070 for 580 kgs.  Other Limousins sold to £1025 for 520 kgs, £1015 for 540 kgs, £1000 for 460 kgs, £960 for 470 kgs, £920 for 450 kgs, £905 for 440 kgs and £800 for 350 kgs. Charolais heifers sold to £890 for 340 kgs, £870 for 380 kgs, £870 for 370 kgs £850 for 370 kgs and £755 for 330 kgs.

Weanling calves also sold in a strong trade with Belgian Blues to £1100 for 480 kgs and £790 for 380 kgs. Limousins in this section sold to £1005 for 420 kgs, £930 for 450 kgs and £760 for 350 kgs while Charolais sold to £1050 for 450 kgs, £935 for 430 kgs and £840 for 380 kgs.

Steers sold to a top price of £1240 paid for a Charolais weighing 600 kgs. Other Charolais in this section sold for £1130 for 580 kgs, £1050 for 520 kgs, £970 for 460 kgs, £940 for 420 kgs and £925 for 430 kgs. Limousin steers sold to £1215 for 590 kgs, £1100 for 600 kgs, £1070 for 490 kgs and £1015 for 560 kgs while best of the Blondes sold for £1070 for 550 kgs with Herefords to £760 for 400 kgs.

Fat cows sold to £1350 for 730 kgs and £1125 for 630 kgs – both for Charolais while Limousin cows sold to £1195 for 660 kgs.

Young Bulls sold to £1345 paid for a Limousin at 700 kgs with Charolais to £1230 for 600 kgs  while cow/calf outfits sold to £1270 paid for a Limousin with calf at foot.
