Around 25 construction jobs are expected to be created if plans to build a new storage facility in Mullavilly are given the go-ahead.
Sheds at the business on the Portadown Road were damaged in a recent storm and subsequently demolished due to health and safety concerns.
Now, the GlobeWeigh Group hopes to build a single portal-frame storage structure to replace what has been lost.
There would be no change to the number of staff employed by the company, but the works – which are expected to take six months to complete – would provide employment for a construction team of around 25.
The location of the development is described as a “brownfield site” and is “within the existing commercial premises at 118a Portadown Road, Mullavilly”.
The new facility would offer a floorspace of just over 3,000 sq ft.
An economic statement accompanying the plans explains: “The company require the new building to replace the building recently demolished to cater for the current requirement, and an increase in gross floor area will also facilitate future growth of the company.”
It adds: “The proposed development will bring increased employment to the area, with potential for expanded production providing additional tax benefit to the Treasury and additional business rates to the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
“The development will sustain and create additional work for the local supply chain.
“Any expansion to the business will benefit local delivery and haulage businesses.”
The statement also notes that the facility is “in scale, nature and form appropriate to its location” and “will not cause harm to the amenities of nearby residents”.
According to its website, GlobeWeigh was established in 1995 to supply and service weighbridges for the Irish market.
It has “gone from strength to strength to become one of Ireland’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of Agricultural and Industrial Weighing Solutions”, with clients including Glanbia, Pfizer, Moy Park, Dale Farm, T-Met, Almac, ABP and Northern Ireland Water.
The application will be advertised shortly, and the intention is for work to begin once planning approval has been granted.
