Award-winning village of Scarva to enjoy state-of-the-art play park for all ages and abilities

All the old favourites will sit alongside multi-activity units, trails, play panels and interactive games while fully wheelchair accessible facilities - such as a wobble bridge, swings and embankment slide - will deliver an all-inclusive venue

Scarva Play Park

An award-winning picturesque village on the border of Counties Down and Armagh will shortly benefit from a major investment in play facilities.

Scarva will enjoy a new state-of-the-art all-inclusive play park on a par with those being planned at other key towns across the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area.

Proposals for the scheme, which had been out for consultation and feedback to ascertain what was wanted and needed, have now been finalised.

And these have been submitted to ABC Council’s own planners for consideration.

The work would centre on the present park area at the Legananny Road but would also require an extension to the site onto existing green space.

It will see a major refurbishment and a few pleasant surprises!

All of the existing equipment, bins, seating and furniture will be removed and replaced with new bitmac and wetpour surfacing,

Then the very latest in play equipment – to challenge and interest children of all ages and abilities – will be put in place.

Among the key features planned are a nature forest-themed multi-activity sensory play unit, which includes tunnels, slides, climbing facilities and much more.

There will be swings – including specialised equipment for wheelchair users – as well as rotating play features, trampolines, traditional see-saws, springers, virtuoso multi-chimes, virtuoso shake, rattle and roll, a colour wheel kaleidoscope play panel, a sparkling butterfly play panel, a chunky noughts and crosses game, and a rock, paper, scissors play panel.

There will be a wheelchair accessible embankment slide, a wheelchair accessible wobble bridge, a playhouse, numerous climbing and balancing trails taking different forms and features, such as pillars, steps and nets, a treehouse-themed multi-activity unit incorporating slide, as well as many more play panels and interactive play and games experiences.

The play park will also benefit from the installation of new bins and street furniture too.

All of the intended attractions and activities would see Scarva boast one of the best parks in the borough when complete.

The full proposals are due to be publicly advertised shortly and approval should follow just weeks later, meaning Scarva’s calls for enhanced play provision are about to be answered very, very soon!
