Clare bridge significantly damaged during Storm Eowyn to be fixed next month

A bridge near Tandragee significantly damaged during Storm Eowyn is to be repaired next month.

The bridge, in Clare, suffered greatly when a large adjacent mature tree was blown over by the high winds in January.

As a result, the Department for Infrastructure assessed the damage and have since issued instruction to a contractor to take forward repairs.

Works are programmed to commence at the start of July for a period of approximately three weeks, however this is dependent on favourable weather conditions and the timely completion of adjacent works by NI Water contractors.

Newry and Armagh DUP Assemblyman William Irwin MLA welcomed the news.

“It will certainly be good to see these important works commenced as it has been some months since the bridge sustained damage following the storm,” said Mr Irwin.

“The bridge is very significant and historical feature in the area and it was concerning to see the damage caused and local residents and road users have been querying the length of time that has passed without visible progress on the repairs.

“I would urge the Department to push on with the repairs without further delay to avoid any further deterioration in the structure.”
