Local retailers from Co. Armagh, Co. Down and Co. Tyrone have announced a fundraising total of over £2,000 for The Stroke Association after a series of fundraising activities in 2022.
SPAR Tandragee led the fundraising on behalf of a member of staff and dear friend to the team, who sadly suffered a stroke last year.
The team then decided they would recruit other stores to help them raise much needed funds for the charity which helps hundreds of thousands of people across the UK rebuild their lives after a stroke through essential care and support.
The SPAR stores involved alongside SPAR Tandragee were store neighbours on Church Street, plus stores in Garvey and the Glenavy Road in Lisburn and neighbouring Lambeg, Seagoe and Loughview in Craigavon, Cohannon and Donaghmore in Dungannon, and in Banbridge.
To kick off the fundraising activities in August, managers from the ten stores took part in a sponsored walk, walking 7.5 miles from Portadown to Scarva Tearooms.
The stores also held a number of fundraising events for their local shoppers including a raffle which had exciting prizes including hampers, sweet treats and gift vouchers, in-store bucket collections and multiple cake sales.
The stores raised an amazing total of £2,430 for the deserving charity.
The money raised by the stores will help fund vital research, supported by the Stroke Association, which aims to find new ways to prevent strokes happening and discover more effective ways to provide support after a stroke.
Lesley Phillips, manager at SPAR Tandragee, said: “It was great to be able to raise money for a charity so close to all our hearts here at SPAR Tandragee and so heart-warming that our store colleagues from across County Down, County Armagh and County Tyrone were so keen to get involved.
“We want to thank those store teams and all the shoppers who were so generous in their donations and helped us reach this fantastic amount to donate to the Stroke Association.”
