A Sinn Féin representative has strongly condemned a series of “Locals First” posters that appeared in Tandragee, describing them as “disgusting” and “designed to intimidate and create fear”.

Newry and Armagh MLA Aoife Finnegan said there was “absolutely no place for this kind of hate in our society”, insisting the people of Tandragee “want to live in peace and with respect for all”.

“I unreservedly condemn the disgusting ‘Locals First’ posters in Tandragee,” she said. “Those behind them do not speak for our society. The people of Tandragee want to live in peace and with respect for all.

“These posters are designed to intimidate and create fear — there is absolutely no place for this kind of hate in our society.”

Ms Finnegan confirmed she has reported the matter to police and plans to contact both the Infrastructure and Justice Ministers to ensure what she described as “a coordinated response”.

She added: “Sinn Féin is committed to building a fair, inclusive society where everyone is valued and respected. Hate and division will not win.”

Police have been made aware of the incident.
