Emergency services rush to Scarva canal area after reports of teenage boy in water

A child has been taken to hospital after an incident in Scarva this afternoon (Monday).

Police received a report for a concern for safety of a teenage boy in the Canal Court area of the village.

It was reported that at around 3.30 pm, a “boy had gone into the water in the area”.

A PSNI spokesperson told Armagh I : “Officers attended the scene along with other emergency services colleagues, including the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Air Ambulance NI.

“The male has been taken to hospital.

“There are no further details at this stage.”

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three appliances – two from Banbridge and one from Portadown – had been tasked to an “ongoing incident”.

This afternoon’s operation was focussed on the Canal Court area of the village which backs on to the canal.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they received a 999 call at 3.27pm following reports of an incident at Scarva lake.

“NIAS despatched an emergency crew and ambulance officer to the scene where the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS crew on board were also tasked to the incident.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene a young male patient was taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital.”
