Jewellery stolen in separate burglaries in Tandragee and Scarva

Detectives in Armagh investigating reports of two burglaries in the Scarva and Tandragee areas at the weekend are appealing for information.

Detective Inspector McCamley said: “We received a report at 5:25pm on Friday, 17 August that entry had been gained to a house in the Lisnavaragh Road area of Scarva sometime between 9:30am and 5pm that day. A gold signet ring was reported stolen.

“Later on Friday evening, at around 9:40pm, police received the report of a burglary at a house in the Drumnamether Road area of Tandragee. A window at the property was damaged. Among the items stolen was a jewellery box containing gold rings, chains, earrings, costume jewellery and a watch. It’s believed this occurred sometime between 6pm on Thursday 16th August, and 9pm on Friday.

“Our inquiries are continuing, and I want to make a number of appeals today.

“Were you in either of these areas around these times? Did you see any suspicious activity? Have you been offered jewellery for sale in suspicious circumstances?

“If you have information you believe may assist our investigation contact detectives in Armagh on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference numbers 946 17/08/18; 1350 of 17/08/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

Detective Inspector McCamley added: “Tackling burglaries is of major importance for us in Armagh. We know that burglary is a crime that can have a high victim impact when a person’s property or business is broken in to, so I want to appeal to homeowners and businesses to check their properties are secure against burglars.

“The message is check your locks, not only on your house or business premises, but on any outbuildings, garages and sheds in order to safeguard valuable equipment.

“Make sure your home and business is secure. Lock doors and windows. Never leave a garage or garden shed unlocked. Keep your valuables stored away safely, and never leave them where they can be seen through windows.

“It is extremely important that you report any type of activity that raises your suspicions. It’s a good way to alert us so we can investigate and it will also help deter criminals and reduce crime in your area. For example, if you see an unusual vehicle parked or travelling on a road in your area, or strangers calling at houses, take a note of the vehicle registration number and a description of any vehicles and pass that information on to police.
