An opening date for the Legananny Road in Scarva has finally been announced – six months after the road was initially closed.
The Department for Infrastructure has confirmed that the road, which runs between Scarva and Loughbrickland, will re-open this Friday – though no specific timing has been confirmed.
The road has been closed since November due to the flooding. Contractors started working on the road subsidence before Christmas but ran into difficulties with a water mains, pausing the work for a time.
Previously, it had been reported the road would re-open at the end of March, before that deadline was moved to the end of April.
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart welcomed the news, saying, “It has been a long haul but we are almost there. Been a few false dawns but confirmation received today [Wednesday] that the road will reopen on Friday (unclear just of a specific time on Friday but evening at the latest).
“I have also requested as per the promise that all roads impacted by the closure are assessed for repair immediately. Residents have been very patient. Thank you. Also thanks to DFI for their efforts. I know it was frustrating for them also.”
