‘Part-time’ 20mph speed limits to be installed outside six schools in borough

Tandragee Primary, Clounagh Junior High and St John the Baptist College among schools to see new measures introduced

Temporary 20mph speed limits are to be introduced outside six schools in the borough.

The confirmation has come in a letter to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

Department of Infrastructure Roads says it is proposing to “introduce part time 20mph speed limits on
stretches of public road” adjacent to three primary age and three secondary age schools.

These are Tandragee Primary, Clintyclay Primary School and Seagoe Primary in Portadown, as well as St John the Baptist College and Clounagh Junior High, both Portadown, and St Patrick’s College in Banbridge.

Correspondence to council confirms the next steps: “The existing school signs will be replaced with new signs to warn of the presence of the school and the part time speed limit.

“The speed limit will only be operational when the lights flash and these times will be strictly controlled to
coincide with peak activity at the school.”

Appropriate legislation is currently being drafted ahead of the introduction of these new measures being put in place.
