Phone signal boost for residents in Laurelvale and Mullavilly

A long-awaited improvement to mobile phone signal in the Laurelvale and Mullavilly areas is a matter of weeks away.

Residents have long lamented the lack of – or often non-existent – phone signal in the area, however, the installation of a new phone mast will put an end to those issues.

DUP Alderman Gareth Wilson received an update from ‘Cornerstone’, the mobile phone infrastructure services organisation, responsible for the work.

Alderman Wilson said the difficulties associated with poor mobile phone signal in the general area was becoming more of an issue with complaints from residents “intensifying highlighting that phone signal is patchy and data coverage is in some cases non-existent”.

Welcoming the news that works to the mast location in the area is due to start on June 28 and is scheduled to be complete within six to eight weeks, Alderman Wilson said the installation should greatly improve signal coverage.

He said: “This mast install will hopefully address the notoriously patchy mobile signal in the general area and I know that this has been an issue for residents for some time.

“The reliance on mobile technology and the importance of a reliable and suitable signal for data is very important in this day and age and the phone companies have obviously recognised the poor reception in the area – hence this infrastructure investment.

“I am informed that the work is due to start at the end of June and within six to eight weeks the service should be operational and will hopefully address those ongoing persistent signal issues lots of people have been experiencing.”
