Tandragee Recreation Centre to remain closed following sudden death of man

Tandragee Recreation Centre

A Co. Armagh recreation centre is set to remain closed throughout the day following the sudden death of a man on Wednesday evening.

The man – who was a customer and regular user of the council-owned Tandragee facility – collapsed and passed away around 6pm.

A statement from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council confirmed today’s closure and that more information will follow in due course.

Sympathies have been paid to the deceased, who is understood to have been local to the area.

DUP councillor Alderman Gareth Wilson said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the gentleman’s family at this very difficult time and it is such sad news to learn that a member of the public has sadly passed away suddenly in the centre.

“My thoughts are also with the recreation centre staff as they deal with this very sad situation.”

Independent councillor Paul Berry and Ulster Unionist Jim Speers also offered their sympathies to the man’s family and friends at this tragic time, describing it as “devastating” for the whole community.

Staff, who rushed to the man’s aid will be offered counselling following the traumatic experience.
