A Tandragee woman has won this year’s prestigious Lion Award for Lecturer of the Year as part of the annual City & Guilds Medals for Excellence programme.

And Southern Regional College’s Marilyn Warren was thrilled to be presented with the award by HRH Princess Anne.

Exactly 140 years old this year – and widely acknowledged as the ‘Oscars of skills education’ – the Lion Awards recognise outstanding individuals in their field and the unrivalled contribution and achievements they make.

Marilyn, who delivers tuition and support to students, enrolled on the City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development at Southern Regional College.

She was presented with her award at the Guildhall in London.

A year ago, Marilyn was also recognised by City & Guilds, receiving a coveted Medal of Excellence, for not only being a champion for learning, but for her ‘enthusiasm and outstanding subject knowledge’.

A world leader in global skills development, the City & Guilds programme recognises success amongst learners and their tutors and international competition for the sought-after recognition is intense.

Congratulating Marilyn, Southern Regional College chief executive, Brian Doran, said: “Our students and colleagues have always highlighted Marilyn’s great way of teaching, superior knowledge and experience and I know that her approach, enthusiasm and wonderful personality make for an enjoyable and constructive learning environment.

“I’m delighted that Marilyn’s outstanding attributes have been recognised at such an important, prominent and prestigious international level.

“Southern Regional College is extremely privileged that she is part of our team.”

The annual City & Guilds Medals for Excellence programme represents the contributions made from students and staff in Further Education from across the UK, Ireland and around the world.
