Teen fined £200 for acting aggressively towards police and members of the public

His defence said his client 'has no recollection of what happened and he had simply taken too much drink'

A Hamiltonsbawn teenager who was abusive towards police after they observed him acting aggressively towards members of the public has been ordered to pay a fine of £200.

The 18-year-old’s solicitor told court: “He instructs he has no recollection of what happened and he had simply taken too much drink.”

Ryan Traynor, of Johnston Mews, had pleas of guilty entered on his behalf to disorderly behaviour and resisting police at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry.

Prosecution outlined that on June 13, at 2.25am, police on patrol observed a male they identified as this defendant acting aggressively towards members of the public on Church Street, Tandragee.

Upon being spoken to by officers, Traynor continued to be aggressive and abusive, despite several warnings about his behaviour.

The defendant continued to struggle as police attempted to arrest him.

Defence solicitor John Murphy stated: “This is an 18-year-old with no previous. He has entered a plea at the first opportunity. He instructs he has no recollection of what happened and he had simply taken too much drink.”

Deputy District Judge Peter Prenter ordered that Traynor pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 16 weeks.
