A young man who lost his life in a road-traffic collision, outside Markethill last weekend, has been named as Daniel McCallister of Tandragee.
He was only 18-years-old.
He died in hospital on Wednesday afternoon, September 18, from injuries sustained following a collision on the Cladymilltown Road on Sunday evening, September 15.
Two vehicles, a blue Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Daniel, and a blue Volkswagen Touran, collided. The other driver remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Roads Inspector Cherith Adair from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “My detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam or other footage which could assist with our enquiries.
“Please call us on 101, quoting reference 1729 15/09/24.”

A funeral notice described Daniel, of 2 Ballyshiel Road, as the “dearly loved son of William and Barbara, much loved brother of Sarah, Jack, Kathryn and Samuel, dear brother-in-law of Adam, cherished grandson of Jackie and Eileen and a dear uncle and nephew”.
It adds: “Family and friends welcome to call at his home on Friday and Saturday from 2.00pm to 9.00pm.”
Daniel’s funeral service will take place in St John’s Parish Church, Mullabrack, on Sunday at 2.30pm, followed by a private committal in the adjoining churchyard.

Among those paying tribute to Daniel’s life on social media was Lower Iveagh West District LOL No. 8 of the Orange Order.
A spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of Bro Daniel McCallister of Laurencetown L.O.L 822.
“Bro Daniel’s father William, grandfather Jackie and brothers Jack and Samuel are all members of L.O.L 822.
“Bro Daniel was only 18 years old.
“On behalf of the District I would like to pass on sincere condolences to the McCallister family circle and ask that Brethren keep them in their thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead.”
Markethill High School added: “On behalf of the entire Markethill High School family, we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the McCallister family following the loss of their dear son and brother, Daniel, who left us in 2022.
“The McCallister family are extremely well known in this area and there is much sadness and shock within the local community. We will continue to keep Mr and Mrs McCallister, Sarah, Jack, Kathryn and Samuel (all past pupils of MHS) in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.”
