Two men who paid a taxi driver to take them to south Armagh threatened to sexually assault him after producing a knife.
The shocking incident happened just after midnight on Tuesday.
But now Garda have issued an appeal for information to find the pair who subjected the driver to such a terrifying ordeal.
The driver answered a call made to the taxi office in Dundalk and went to collect the pair at Park Street.
They initially told him to take them to Coxs Demesne in Dundalk, before changing their mind and paying him up front to take them to Cullyhanna.
As the taxi driver took them along the Armagh Road, the pair produced a knife and a screwdriver. They told the 44-year-old driver he would be sexually assaulted once they got him to south Armagh.
The driver pleaded with his passengers not to assault him, before stopping his Skoda Octavia car on the road. A passing motorist slowed down and looked but drove on.
The thugs then stole money before getting out of the taxi and running off.
The driver sped back towards Dundalk and immediately reported the incident to Gardai, who have been examining CCTV footage taken from the original collection point at Park Street.
