‘Treacherous’ junction work complete

SINN Féin Councillor Mary Doyle has welcomed long-awaited road works completed recently at the Old School Lane in Granemore at her request.

“These improvements have had a significant and positive impact on the residents who frequently use the road, improving safety and allowing unrestricted access to heavy vehicles, including the bin lorry which had previously been prevented,” she said.

“The junction where the Old School Lane meets the Granemore Road, has long been a difficult junction to enter or emerge from. This was due to the narrow entrance, with a wall on one side and a building on the other part of the road.

“The derelict building has now been demolished by the owner out of consideration for the community, to allow easier and safer manoeuvring in and out of Old School Lane. Other outstanding work has also since been completed to a standard whereby heavier vehicles can now safely enter the road.

“I worked with the property owner and Roads Service and we had a meeting out at the site and Roads Service committed to develop a plan which would ultimately adapt the road.

“I am delighted to welcome the completion of the work, including the kerbing and resurfacing, which has already made a welcome improvement to residents.”
