Two nuns have died in a collision involving a police vehicle in Newry.
The two-vehicle crash happened on the Belfast Road near the Derrycraw Road junction just before 9.30am this morning (Tuesday).
Three policemen, who were travelling in a PSNI vehicle, were not seriously injured.
Mayor of Newry & Mourne Sinn Féin Cllr Dáire Hughes has said that there is a deep shock within the area at the most recent fatal road traffic collision.
He commented: “This is horrendous news, in particular coming on the back of the deaths of cyclist last week and a young man killed in a traffic incident near Carlingford last night.
The thoughts and prayers of the Newry & Mourne community are with the families and friends of those who have sadly lost their lives today.
We also keep in our prayers all those involved in this incident. This is a tragic reminder of just how vulnerable we all can be when out on our roads.
