Some 10 years ago, Siobhan Fox from Derrynoose was living the equine-lovers dream, rescuing horses from sad situations and slaughterhouses and providing them with the rehabilitation and care they needed to live fuller, happier lives.
That was until she was tragically crushed in an accident involving a shipping container.
The accident put paid to the heavy lifting and physical work required in horse management and care. Siobhan admits, she found her mood to be adversely effected, coupled with additional underlaying illnesses, she struggled to find purpose in her everyday.
Incredibly, Siobhan counts herself lucky and, now with hindsight, is able to see the positive to have come from her accident. The positive being, Foxglove Farm and Sanctuary.
This is part two of our four part ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ video series, in partnership with Pet Domain.
Foxglove Farm and Sanctuary, situated at Siobhan’s homeplace, is now a warm home to five rescued pigs, a whole host of poultry and a lively little pup, McGregor, who has become Siobhan’s adorable right hand man.
Not only is Siobhan intensely committed to the happiness and welfare of her animals, she applies the same level of love to the land they live on. Self-taught in the realms of field and fodder, Siobhan, has sewn her land with a special mix of seeds to promote natural fertilisation and a healthy diet for her beloved rescues.
