Work begins on Derrynoose path link

WORK has started this week on a new footway link between Our Lady’s and St Mochua’s Primary School, Little Acorns Nursery and the local GAA Club in Derrynoose.

SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon welcomed the scheme, which comes after a meeting in January with Roads Minister Danny Kennedy and representatives of the school, club and Armagh Council in Derrynoose, when they walked the route concerned and discussed the proposal.

He said: “This scheme complements the ambitious plans by Derrynoose GAC and the local Community Association.  Their plans include a 3G training pitch which will commence shortly and this footway will mean the local school will be able to have safe access to that new facility.

“In addition to the provision of the footway, vital improvements will be made to the drainage on the Fergot Road and the scheme will see lengths of the road resurfaced as well.

“This is a very welcome development and I want to place on record my sincere thanks to all who have brought the scheme to this point. It will be completed relatively quickly as it is anticipated it will take approximately two weeks.

“I would ask local people to be aware of the work on the road and to expect local diversions while it is ongoing.  I hope the little disruption caused will be well worth it when the scheme is complete.”
