Work has started to tidy up some of Keady’s derelict properties along the town’s Kinelowen Street.
Local SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon said that, over recent years, some of these properties have become run-down.
He said: “In fact, during a recent public consultation on a proposed Environmental Improvement scheme, these properties came up time and time again, constantly being described as eyesores.
“Armagh City and District Council secured £45,000 from the Department of the Environment to tackle properties such as these across Armagh City, Keady, Markethill and Tandragee and only this week SDLP Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said he wanted to do more of these types of schemes in towns and villages across the North. ‘
“In Keady two properties are being targeted in this scheme, however, I would hope that it would be extended to other properties in the town in the months ahead. These two properties will be power-washed, essential repairs will be carried out, they will be painted and given a general clean-up.
“I know this work will be greatly appreciated in the local community. A contractor has been appointed and works will take about three to four weeks to complete.
“These works will complement the planned work in Keady over the coming months with the start of the Environmental Improvement scheme, which will also include a ‘Spruce-Up Grant’ for local businesses to avail of to help paint and clean up the front of their properties. The final details of the Spruce Up Grant will be released in due course.”
