Over 50 students from Ceara, Tandragee Junior High School, Killicomaine JHS and Clounagh JHS have participated in an inclusive ‘Fit Together’ event at Craigavon Leisure Centre.
The pupils took part in a range of sports including basketball, volleyball and Olympic handball as well as inclusive sports such as wheelchair rugby and boccia, a target ball sport similar to bowls.
Nuala McVeigh, Community Sport Development Officer at Craigavon Borough Council, said: “The event brought young people together for a day to engage with other young people from neighbouring schools to try out a variety of activities delivered by the experienced Active Communities Coaches, led by Colleen Connolly ‘Inclusive Sports and Leisure Officer’ from Disability Sports NI.
“Feedback from the teachers and class assistants was really positive and it was evident that everyone had an enjoyable day!”
The Craigavon Area Learning Communities ‘Fit Together’ event was delivered alongside Disability Sport NI and the Active Communities Programme managed through Craigavon Borough Council.
