ARMAGH City are ready for a tough run-in as they continue their bid for promotion from the Belfast Telegraph Championship Two.
And nothing gets easier as the Holm Park side try and fend off the challenge of their nearest rivals, Ballyclare Comrades and Lurgan Celtic.
Today (Tuesday), April 9, they have another stern test when they welcome Glebe Rangers to Holm Park, kick-off 7.45pm.
The County Antrim side inflicted one of City’s biggest league defeats of the season when they won 4-0 in the opening clash and the local players will certainly want revenge for that embarrassing reverse.
However, Armagh can take comfort from the fact that they have hit form at the right time and won their last two championship matches at home to Ballyclare and away to the dangerous Queens last Saturday.
Club captain Liam Cullen and striker Stephen Murray were the marksmen for City against the students but the local side had to weather a storm after conceeding a late penalty in Belfast.
Games at this time of the season come thick and fast and Armagh will have little time to recover before their next big test when they welcome old rivals Banbridge Town on Saturday, April 13, kick-off 3pm.
Matches between the teams are always hard fought and, once again, the Holm Park outfit will have to bring their best form to the table.
One or two players are struggling with niggling injuries but, hopefully, a full squad should be available to manager Marty Rice for the clashes against Glebe Rangers and Banbridge Town.
In recent weeks every player has stood up magnificently to the massive task in hand – with the defence being particularly strong.
If this trend continues then City can win both matches but they will have to approach them in positive style and continue to utilise their attacking and passing play which has brought so many rewards this season!
Meanwhile, Holm Park will play host to the Wilmor Johnston Cup final this Friday evening, April 12, kick-off 7.30pm.
The trophy is a memorial to a former Armagh City chairman and popular club stalwart who sadly passed away several years ago.
Contesting the final will be local outfit Loughgall Reserves and the high-flying Dollingstown who may soon join Championship footballing ranks.
It should be a highly entertaining and keenly contested game.
