City travel to tackle new-look Killymoon

ARMAGH City will be hoping to keep their fine start to the Championship Two season going this Saturday when they travel to play Killymoon.

The match will kick-off at the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown at 3pm.

City travelled away last weekend and recorded a superb 4-2 victory over Queen’s University, while Killymoon went down 5-1 at Lurgan Celtic. The Tyrone side, however, have signed several players during the close season and the feeling is that once their new-look outfit have bedded into the squad then they will be much tougher opposition.

Armagh, for their part, have successfully re-signed practically all of last year’s team and have also integrated three more of their youth players into the first team set-up.

Speaking at City’s recent annual general meeting team manager Marty Rice said he was “optimistic about the season ahead” and hoped for another successful year for the team which just missed out on promotion last term by one place!

Last season Armagh beat Killymoon 5-0 in Cookstown, with two goals coming from striker Stephen Murray. He will play a pivotal role again for City up front this season as the team once more try and grab a spot at Championship One level. Senior players Ultan Lennon, Dara Noonan, Dale Montgomery, Ryan and Shea McGerrigan, Paul Carville, Philip Donnelly, Eamon Kelly, Gareth Grimley, Matthew Hynds, club captain Liam Cullen, and goalkeeper Sean Morgan are all back and raring to go. Former Under 18 and Reserve players, Luke Grimley, Jamie Crooks, James Nesbitt, Chris Maxwell and John Daly will also be pressing for first-team places as the season gets underway.

City will be hoping to grab the points away to Killymoon on Saturday but know it will not be easy. However, if Armagh play as they did against Queens – and take all their chances – then they could well record back-to-back wins.
