THERE will be a fantastic festival of football at the new-look Holm Park this Saturday.
For the opening matches will be played on the sensational 3G-2* FIFA facility which has just been developed at a cost of some £425,000.
This has been made possible through the generous support of Sport NI, Armagh City and District Council, in association with Arrmagh City Football Club.
Contractors, Tony Patterson Sports, have carried out the project to the highest degree and they, along with the club committee, are delighted with the outcome.
In fact, the pitch now ranks among one the best of its type in the Province!
A spokesman for Armagh City Football Club commented: “Our aim is to provide a facility which can be used by everyone from throughout the city and district. From the very young, to the not so young, it is a developement which will benefit one and all – not least all the teams which represent Armagh City FC.
“The project has been very well received and a number of local clubs have already booked the new pitch for both training and playing purposes.
“We are delighted with the outcome and feel sure it will propel Armagh City FC to bigger and better times in the future,” he concluded.
To mark the opening day on the new pitch it has been decided to run a number of events this Saturday, September 14.
At 9am the Armagh FC Mini-Soccer teams will turn out at Holm Park, under the direction of Sean Daly and his team of youth coaches.
This will be followed, at 10.30am, with a competitive Under 18 match when the Holm Park side host their counterparts from Lurgan Celtic.
The main match of the day, however, will be the Bob Radcliffe Cup clash between Armagh City’s Championship Two team against county rivals Lurgan Celtic. This match kicks-off at 2.30pm.
A number of guests will be invited along on Saturday, including representatives from Sport NI, Armagh City and District Council, and the all-important club sponsors.
After the main game there will be Premier League football on the ‘Big Screen’ in the clubhouse and a barbecue is being organised. It is also hoped to provide music later in the evening.
A cordial invitation is given to everyone who would like to come along at any stage in the afternoon and view the club’s superb facilities.
