Glentoran Seconds 3 Loughgall 1
LOUGHGALL crashed out of the Coca-Cola Intermediate Cup at the hands of an impressive Glentoran Seconds at the Oval.
Boss Colin Malone started with two new signings as Daniel McGarry and James Lindsay, both formerly of Glenavon Reserves, started in place of Josh Finlay and Mark Stewart. In the other change from last week’s defeat at the hands of Coagh United, Jeff Brady replaced John Guy.
Loughgall made an excellent start and were ahead after 12 minutes when Wesley Boyle headed home Dale Malone’s corner delivery. However the lead lasted only four minutes as the Glens equalised through Carl McCombe’s good finish inside the penalty area after an excellent individual run from Jordan Stewart.
The hosts netted their second goal on the half hour when Stevie Gordon rose highest to meet Willie Garrett’s free-kick with a strong header.
Glentoran missed a couple of chances before half-time to extend their lead, however, their efforts were rewarded five minutes into the second period when they grabbed an important third goal as Stephen Gordon headed across goal for Stewart to convert from close range.
The Villagers hit the crossbar through Dale Malone’s 25-yard shot in the 62nd minute. And they came very close with six minutes remaining when substitute Gerard McMahon forced the Glens ‘keeper into an excellent reflex save as he headed Adam Rodgers’ cross goalwards.
