Ronnie McFall MBE receives Freedom of the Borough

Ceremony took place at Craigavon Civic Centre

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council bestowed its first Freedom of the Borough, the highest honour any Council can award, upon Ronnie McFall MBE on Saturday (May 13).

One of the longest-serving managers in European club football history, this accolade recognises Ronnie’s huge role and significant contribution to sport in the Borough and Northern Ireland.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Councillor Garath Keating said: “[Saturday] was particularly special as it was the first time our new Council bestowed such an honour on any individual. It is fitting that Mr McFall received this accolade for the enormous contribution he has made to sport both within the Borough and across the region”.

Ronnie McFall MBE commented: “This is a very humbling experience as I recognise it is the greatest honour the Council can bestow and would just like to extend my grateful thanks to all the Members of Council, friends, family and all the people who have supported and helped me along the way.

“I would also like to pay particular gratitude to my wife Ann who has been by my side every step of the way. I, without a doubt, share this honour with her.”

The prestigious ceremony took place at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre where around 130 guests gathered to witness the presentation of this honour and to pay tribute to a hugely respected figure within the football world.
