Mid-Ulster Shield Round One
CARTWHEEL Utd travelled to Milford to play Armagh Rovers in the first round of the prestigious Mid Ulster Shield.
Rovers started brightly creating numerous chances with Phillip Harvey and Gary McGarvey both going close before Cartwheel nearly went ahead when Rico Kelly spurned a great chance.
Rovers continued to test the opposition keeper but both teams went in at the break scoreless.
Cartwheel started the second half much better but where unable to create any scoring opportunities. Rovers piled the pressure on and nearly broke the dead lock when Philip Harvey hit the post and Mickey Toal hit the crossbar.
They did manage to take the lead when Tiernan McShane slotted home a through ball 10 minutes from time. It didn’t take the visitors long to reply when Rico funtime Kelly scored an outrageous overhead kick from all of 40 yards.
However Rovers’ response was immediate when Gary McGarvey managed to put the hosts ahead from close range with nearly the last kick of the game.
Armagh Rovers will now face Tullygally in Round 2.
