Mullaghbawn 0-12 Shane O’Neill’s 3-13
The second game of the league turned up another local derby, this time versus Shane O’Neill’s. The hosts took a three points to two lead early on before Mullaghbawn received a black card in the tenth minute. A goal from the home side put them four points up with ten minutes to run in the first half.
Three impressive points from play in the closing stages of the first period gave Mullaghbawn encouragement for the second half; 1.04-0.05. The deficit was cut to one point within ten seconds of the restart, but unfortunately that was to be the closest Mullaghbawn would get to the Camlough side.
Shanes registered another goal and three points moving into the final quarter and to their credit Mullaghbawn kept within touching distance with a combination of five frees and scores from play; 2.07-0.11. The final quarter was one-way traffic and Shanes tagged on a third goal, running out convincing winners in the end.
Final score 3.13-0.12 in favour of the home side. Next up is Culloville in the first home fixture of the year on Sunday @2pm. The Reserves are fixed to take on Madden at home on Wednesday night.
CHARLIE GRANT CUP
We have reached the semi-final stage of the 2015 Charlie Grant Cup. Next Sunday @6.30pm Mullaghbawn will play Killeavy & Crossmaglen take will take on Carrickcruppen. There were wins for Crossmaglen over Silverbridge and Carrickcruppen defeated Dromintee Last Sunday. At the weekend Killeavy were victors over Cullyhanna. All proceeds are in aid of Southern Area Hospice, so please lend as much support as you can.
SENIOR CAMOGIE
Senior Camogs drew in their first league game away to Castleblayney last weekend. The next game is on April 22nd at home to Clontibret.
SENIOR LADIES
Senior Ladies will take on Forkhill in their next league encounter this coming Saturday in Mullaghbawn @6.45pm.
MINOR FOOTBALL
Our boys got off to a great start, leading by two points after ten minutes and playing some great attacking football, but Cross eventually settled into the game, scoring three points in quick succession. Injury to one of our mid-fielders midway through the first half was a big loss, but the lads never lay down and kicked two more points to take the lead. Both teams then exchanged scores before Mullaghbawn pointed just before half time to give them a one point on a score line of 0-6 to 0-5.
It was Cross who started the brighter in the second half, but to their credit, the lads never stopped battling and showed tremendous character to force themselves back into the game. After a period of dominance, a penalty was coolly dispatched and this gave our boys the belief that they could get something from the game. Cross, however, managed to regain control around the middle of the field.
Another goal, with five minutes remaining left just a kick of the ball between the sides. It was our opponents who finished the stronger, however, tagging on two more points to run out winners on a score line of 1-15 to 2-7. His management and team mates would like to offer Eoghan their full support and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
UNDER-16 FOOTBALL
The U16s battled hard over in Cullyhanna during the week, but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the scoreline in a tight game. Nevertheless, a lot of positives can be taken for the weeks and months ahead.

Senior Men
Mullaghbawn were the visitors to Camlough on Sunday afternoon for our senior men’s second league game of the year and the Shanes recorded their second victory of the campaign, winning by ten points, 3 – 13 to 0 – 12. The Shanes took an early two point lead courtesy of scores from Sean McLoughlin and David McCabe with Mullaghbawn replying with a pointed free.
The sides then swapped points with Micheál Brady on target for the home side before Paul O’Rourke latched on to a clever through ball to score his side’s first goal of the game. The Shanes led by four at this stage and free from O’Rourke increased their advantage to five but Mullaghbawn got the last three points of the half to trail by just two at the break.
A Mullaghbawn point right from the re-start left just minimum between the sides but a further two points from the impressive O’Rourke edged the Shanes further ahead. Second-half substitute Mark McCabe then found the net for the Shanes second goal and give them a six point advantage but Mullaghbawn kept themselves well in the game, scoring the next two points.
A point apiece, with Sean McLoughlin on target for the Shanes, kept four between the sides before Paul O’Rourke increased his side’s advantage to five with a well taken point but two points in a row for Mullaghbawn left only a goal between them. Marc Feehan steadied the ship for the Shanes with a fisted point and this was quickly followed up by points from Mark McCabe and team captain Micheál Brady, with Mullaghbawn replying with what proved to be their final point of the contest.
The Shanes finished the game the much stronger side and they sealed the win with a great goal from Greg McCabe and two final points from the deadly O’Rourke. The club would like to thank Kieran Malone (Malone Monumental) for his generous sponsorship of the game and Mickey Mackin (Mackin Formwork) who sponsored a set of match day training tops for the senior footballers.
Senior Ladies
Well done to our senior ladies who took part in the annual Clann Eireann 7’s tournament on Saturday. The Shanes lost their opening game to the recent All-Ireland 7’s winners Emyvale but they recorded a comfortable win over St Paul’s Lurgan in the second game which saw them qualify for the quarter-final of the Cup competition.
Clann Eireann A were their opponents and after a very exciting contest the Shanes lost out by three points, going down by a goal which was scored in the final seconds of the game. This tournament attracted a high quality field of teams from various counties and great credit must go to all the Shanes girls for their performances on the day.
The Shanes squad was: Lousie Kenny (Capt), Yasmin Mackin, Marieanne Marron, Emma Kenny, Ellen Hannaway, Caroline McMenamin, Meghan McGuire, Aimee Mackin, Shanice O’Hare, Siofra Doyle and Alice Tavey. The senior ladies return to action on Thursday evening with an away game against Clann Eireann and all players are asked to meet at the club at 5.30pm.
Minor Boys
Our minor boys had their first league game of the year last Monday night away to O’Doirnin Blues. The Shanes had the wind at their backs in the opening half and they made the most of it as they went in at the break nine points to the good, 2- 7 to 0 – 4.
However the second-half was a totally different affair as O’Doirnin Blues bossed the game and went on to the claim the win by two points, 2 – 11 to 2 – 9. The Shanes lack of fitness was evident towards the end of the game and all players are requested to be at training on Monday evening at the field at 7.00pm.
Minor Girls
Training for our minor girls continues this Tuesday evening at 7.00pm at St Paul’s field.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys recorded their first league win last Thursday night with a hard fought home win over Tir na nOg, 3 – 8 to 3 – 4. The game itself was a closely fought affair and at half-time there was just the minimum between the sides, 2 – 2 to 1- 4 in favour of Tir na Og.
The Shanes hit the front early in the second period and kept themselves in front until the final whistle to claim the all important win by four but had the lads had their shooting boots on it would have been an even greater winning margin. Training continues on Tuesday before their next game on Thursday evening against Crossmaglen.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls are in league action on Monday night at home to Clan na Gael. The game throws in at 7.00pm sharp and all girls are requested to be at the club no later than 6.15pm.
U14 Girls
Unfortunately our U14 girls suffered defeat away to Clan Na Gael last Monday evening. The Shanes girls struggled to get going the first-half but they found their feet in the second-half and competed much better with their opponents. Despite losing there were plenty of positives from the game including the 4 – 01 scored by player of the match Sinead McDonnell and the great performance of Aoife Brady in the Shanes goals. Training continues at 6.30pm on Wednesday evening.
U12½ Boys
The league for this age group begins at the end of the month and it is vitally important that all players at this age group attend the training sessions at club which take place on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 6.00pm.
U12 Girls
Our U12s began their season in great fashion last Sunday evening with a great win over Grange. By all accounts the girls played some brilliant football and fully deserved their win. Training continues at 6.30pm on Wednesday evening and all U12 girls are asked to be in attendance.
U10s & U8s
Training for both these age groups continues every Tuesday and Friday evenings at the club at 6.00pm and all players are requested to attend.
U6s
Training for our U6s continues this Wednesday evening in Bessbrook Community Centre at 6.00pm and all boys and girls at this age group are welcome to attend.
Monthly Executive Meeting
The monthly executive committee meeting scheduled for last Monday night was postponed and will now will take place in the club on Monday night, 20th April at 9.00pm and all committee members are asked to attend.
Merchandise Orders
The club will be taking orders for merchandise on the following dates in the club-house: Monday 20th April from 9.00pm, Friday 24th April from 7.00pm, Monday 27th April from 9.00pm and finally Friday 1st May from 7.00pm. All orders must be paid for at the time of ordering and no orders will be submitted without payment. Orders will only be taken on the designated nights at the club, none will be taken by phone or text.
Country & Western Night
The popular Country and Western night is back in the club on Saturday May 2nd…from 8.00 til late. The night includes a country karaoke contest and a Marksman/woman shooting competition……the married couples section of which should be interesting !!! Barbecue and many spot prizes including best dressed cowboy and cowgirl. DJ and dancing all night. All proceeds to benefit the club so we hope to see members, players, supporters, friends and family come along for a good night’s craic.

St Michael’s GFC
Under 14’s
Our under 14’s played St Bridget’s tonight in Newtown and a great performance from our players Sean McVerry and Conor Davidson excellent in both defending and setting up attacks. Rockas had a commanding game in the middle and up front we were prolific with captain Aidan Davidson leading the line along with the younger lads.
Emmett O’Malley had his shooting boots on and when called upon Dara Swift tapped over some fine points. Oran Quinn and Lorcan O’Malley came on and both had some great touches, not forgetting the Ballymacnab lads who gelled well with our boys. It was a great team effort all round and the boys are looking to put back-to-back wins together next time out.
Senior Team
St.Michaels 0-7 Ballyhegan Davitts 0-16
On Sunday, St Michaels travelled to ballyhegan in search of a 2nd win on the trot. Newtown started poorly and were four points down within ten minutes. Ballyhegan played a strong running game that caused us problems but K Murray kept us in touch with a converted 45 on ten minutes. In the next ten minutes Newtown lost B Davidson and K Carragher to injury and conceded another 4 points to leave them with a lot to do going into the break.
Things got worse when S Rock was harshly black-carded, though K Murray got another 2 frees to make it 8-3 at half-time. Newtown started the second half well, with a great point by K Murray from play and a B Caherty point closing the deficit to only a kick of the ball. However that was as close as it got with the Newtown forward division struggling for scores for the rest of the game. Ballyhegan hit a purple patch and when Kevin O Brien scored newtowns sixth point midway through the second half, the game was already insurmountable.
Terry Gallogly also suffered a bad injury to round off a forgettable game for Newtown. The final score was 16 points to 7 in favour of the homesters. To lose three regular starters so early in the game was a blow to Newtown that they never recovered from, but the replacement players will have gained some experience and hopefully this will stand to them later in the year.
Lotto:
The lotto numbers last Monday night were 10, 19, 20, 26. There was no jackpot winner, match 3 winners were Andrea Carragher and Conor Caherty. Next weeks jackpot is £5700 and the draw takes place in Irwins.

A Eugene Casey goal within 30 seconds of the throw in turned out to be a portent of things to come at St Patrick’s Park last Sunday as Cullyhanna eased to a comprehensive victory over top flight newcomers Forkhill. Leading by 12 points midway through the first half, thanks in part to a Gareth Mackin goal, St Patrick’s were dominant throughout with two second half Robbie Tasker goals ensuring an added gloss to the margin of victory.

Come Dine with Cullyhanna
A huge thank you is due to those who supported and organised what was a magnificent night in the club last Saturday for the “Come Dine with Me” spectacular. It was great to see our supporters coming together for a very enjoyable event which created a great atmosphere in the club. It cannot be emphasised enough that we are hugely grateful to those who contribute to such events as without them, we simply could not keep our club running.
Farmers’ Meeting
There will be a meeting for all farmers in the area on Thursday 30th April at 7:30 pm in the Club regarding animal health.
Minor league
Cullyhanna minors staged a bit of a smash and grab raid on Monday night when a last minute goal from Shea Hoey saw them snatch the points from neighbours Silverbidge in their opening match of the season. It was the first time St. Pat’s had their noses in front in the whole match and was reward for a battling performance that saw them hang in despite being behind from the opening minutes of the game. Both sides produced some good passages of play and numerous fine scores throughout. Ahead 2-7 to 1-8 at the break the visitors could never really shake off the Cullyhanna challenge despite being on the front foot for much of the game. It was a promising start to the campaign which shows that this youngish squad has the spirit to do well this year.

Under 14s
U14s continue with league match at home this Tuesday 21st April against Brian Boru’s at 6.45pm. Players to meet at 6pm. Unfortunately the under 14s exited the Charlie Grant cup at the weekend following defeat to a bigger Killeavy side. At the moment the team is working hard to compete with generally bigger teams and Saturday was no exception. Killeavy controlled the opening half with Cullyhanna slow to get any sort of momentum going. The second half though showed much improvement and hopefully this is the sort of form that will be carried into the match on Tuesday evening.

The second league fixture was set last Sunday for Sarsfields’ second successive away game meeting Mid-Armagh side Ballymacnab. Indeed it was, within a few days exactly a year ago these sides met on another bright Sunday afternoon, with both teams seeking their first win of the year.
The ‘Nab began strong, with Brendan Toner, Brian McCone, Jack Grugan and Gavin McParland breaking an early five point lead in the opening ten minutes; much to relive Grugan and McParland’s early point scoring twelve months ago.
However with four successive wides kicked from the home team, Sarsfields gained possession and with Thomas McAlinden displaying long range accuracy and brothers Michael and Colin Stevenson scoring a point each helped by Aaron McGaughey, the Hoops men soon halted any opening lead.
Paul McGaughey helped Paul McGeown score an early goal for Sarsfields and with Thomas McAlinden and the Nab’s Brian McCone exchanging a point each, both teams walked into the changing rooms at half time a draw with score 0-6 to 1-3.
Colin Stevenson soon found a point within the first minute of the second half but it was the Round Towers who put on a strong second half performance. The Nab’s Brian McCone found two points and a goal from play before Thomas McAlinden and Declan Breen claimed two points back for the visiting side.
Ballymacnab continued to dominate the second half with James Gray scoring a point and goal to further the home side’s lead. Sarsfields’ greatest chance to fight back came deep in the second half with only goalkeeper Conor McGivern standing in the way of allowing Paul McGeown another goal scoring opportunity.
Another goal for the Nab men with only one returning point from Michael Stevenson ensured the home side finished ahead with their first win of 2015, final score Ballymacnab 3-13 Sarsfields 1-8. Sarsfields’ next game is home to Pearse Ógs this Sunday 26th 2pm; a very important meeting as both sides will meet each other in the first round of the Championship in three weeks’ time (Friday 8th May – Athletic Grounds).

SENIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2015
The Seniors continued their excellent start to the season with a convincing win at home to Dromintee on Sunday. Harps started slowly and went 1-01 down before registering their first score. Both teams then traded scores to the half where Dromintee went in three in front. A blistering start to the second half saw Harps score 1-02 without reply and they were never to concede this advantage. Full time score Harps 2-17 Dromintee 2-13. Captain Nippy Swift produced another MOM performance scoring a massive 1-12.

SENIOR RESERVE LEAGUE- Harps will compete in the Mid/South Section with ten other opponents.
Harps opened their League season with a disappointing two point defeat at home to Killeavy last Wednesday. Harps had the lion’s share of possession but were unable to turn this into scores. A Killeavy break away goal mid way through the second half sealed their fate.

The winners of the Group play the winners of Group B in the final on Sunday 22 November.

BOYS UNDER12 &1/2’s- The boys continue mid-week training on the JD pitch from 6.15 – 7.15pm this and every Wednesday. (Remember gum shield, water bottle and £1.)
The boys opened their season with a challenge aganist Sarsfields in glorious conditions at Abbey Park last Saturday. This was a very convincing performance for the boys in their first outing beating Sarsfields 6-12 to 3-06. Great start- let’s bring this performance to the League.
The boys will compete in Division 1 Mid of the League against Granemore, Grange, Keady, Pearse Og and Madden. This is played on a home and away basis and fixtures will be confirmed shortly.
Note this is an under 121/2 League!!! Players eligible to play in this competition must be over the age of 9 and up to Year 8 (first year). This competition will be played with a maximum of 13 a side.

The girls received a bye in the first round of the Senior Championship where they now play local rivals the Grange at the semi final stage. The next League game is Saturday 2 May away to Clann Eireann.

CHILD PROTECTION/HEALTH & SAFETY- In conforming to health and safety and child protection requirements only designated approved Club coaches with appropriate AccessNI certification will be permitted access to the playing/training areas during the forthcoming season. (Under 6’s may be accompanied by parents/guardians)
Parents/guardians are welcome to watch matches/training from the designated viewing areas.

GAELTACHT BURSARY SCHEME 2015- The scheme offers the
opportunity for eligible applicants to attend an Irish Language summer course and experience the Irish language in all aspects of life. Applications can be downloaded from the Liofa section of www.dcalni.gov.uk
ARMAGH COUNTY BOARD GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME 2015- Beidh Feis CLG Ard Mhacha ar siúl Dé Máirt 28 Aibreán ar 7pm sa Cheannáras in Ard Mhacha le deis a thabhairt do dhaoine óga ó chlubanna sa chontae páirtscoláireacht a bhaint le freastal ar chúrsa Gaeltachta an samhradh seo. The annual Feis CLG Ard Mhacha for Gaeltacht part-scholarships will be held on Tuesday 28 April at 7pm in the Ceannáras at the Athletic Grounds.
Young people from clubs across the county will have an opportunity to win a part-scholarship to attend a Gaeltacht course during the summer.
