President’s Award
Our esteemed clubman Michael Mallie received a GAA President’s Award in Croke Park on Friday evening, in recognition of his outstanding voluntary and prolonged contribution to the GAA. This award is a huge honour, not just for Michael himself, but for our club as a whole and we take this opportunity to convey our sincere congratulations. Maith thú, a Mhíceál!
Scór Sinsear
Owing to low registration for Scór Sinsear in Armagh, the planned heats have been cancelled and entrants will proceed to the county final to be held on Sunday 22nd February in Killeavy GFC at 6pm. Gaeltacht Scholarships
Anyone wishing to apply for a scholarship to attend the Gaeltacht later this year is asked to contact John Muckian at jmuckiansilverbridge@gmail.com, providing your full name, address and which college you wish to attend. As there are limited funds available for scholarships, applications should be submitted no later than this week.

The Youth Club Valentine’s Disco will take place this Friday from 7.30pm – 10.30pm, admission is £5.

Young Volunteers Skills Building Programme
The Youth Club, in partnership with St Oliver Plunkett Youth Club, Crossmaglen, is hosting a Young Volunteers Skills Building Programme, aimed at young people age 13 and over, every Thursday 7-9pm in the Resource Centre (Games Room). It offers participants the opportunity to learn a range of skills and confidence-building activities and those who successfully complete the programme will receive the Millennium Volunteers Award.
Underage Registration Night for U8 and U10
Will be held in the clubrooms on Wednesday 18th February at 7.30pm. Parents or guardians of any child wishing to play U8 or U10 football this year must attend to register their child.

Variety Show
The curtain came down on the Variety Show run with Saturday evening’s show in aid of the Dr. Fee Scanner Appeal. In spite of the wintry weather, the show exceeded all expectations. The feast of entertainment, featuring music, singing, dancing, recitation and comedy sketches – and even a cameo appearance by Dr. Pat Fee himself – delighting the packed audience. Our deep appreciation to the full cast, their parents and all those who worked with the acts, and whose tireless efforts resulted in the success of another fabulous night’s entertainment. A full run down of sponsors, raffle prizewinners and the final total raised in aid of the Dr. Fee Scanner Appeal fund will be published in next week’s notes.
The prestigious annual GAA President’s Awards took place in Croke Park on Friday 6th Feb celebrating outstanding contributions to the GAA by various individuals and groups throughout Ireland. There were just 17 recipients of these very coveted awards with Silverbridge man Michael Mallie receiving recognition for his lifelong contribution to GAA through his work at third level education in DKIT and Silverbridge Harps.

The very best of luck to our very own Moya Strain in the All-Ireland Scór nan Óg Final next Saturday, February 14th. Moya has attracted 72 supporters for the final in Dublin CityWest. You have already achieved so much and let’s hope the All-Ireland crown can be added to the collection! There will be a welcome home event after the All-Ireland for Moya Strain in the GAA club on Sunday 15th February at 6pm. All welcome. Due to the low number of acts entered for this year’s Scór Sinsear in Armagh it was agreed that clubs will now progress to one All-County final do be held on February 22nd @6pm in Killeavy GAA. The Southern event scheduled for last week did not take place.
UNDERAGE HURLING
After a successful first year, we are looking forward to an even better 2015 with a lot more games. Training has resumed on Thursdays 29th in Mullaghbawn Community Hall, until the weather gets a little better. Nursery, P1, P2 & P3s @6.30-7.15pm. P4-P7s @7.30-8.15pm. The big day is almost upon as this Saturday evening, 14th February, our magnificent Ulster champions travel to Dublin to take part in the All Ireland final of Scór na nÓg. We wish Mary, Diarmuid, Dermot, Oran and Colum all the very best of luck in the final and they can be assured that they have the entire club willing them on to success. No matter what happens on the day, we are hugely proud of their exploits so far as they have represented our club with wonderful distinction. Let’s hope that by Saturday night we are welcoming All Ireland champions back to Cullyhanna. Our best wishes also to their fantastic mentors Margaret, Bernie, Karen and Marie.

Join us in the club on Tuesday 17th February for a fun family evening of pancake cooking with tea and hot homemade pancakes available from 6pm. Prepare for Lent with this delicious feast.
Gym
Thanks to a huge effort by all involved, particular our senior players, the new refurbished gym is open for business with a superb selection of fitness equipment. To ensure equitable access to this superb modern facility, use of the gym will be restricted to club members only. Members must pay a £20 gym supplement for use of the gym in addition to membership fees. This £20 supplement covers gym use for an entire year and represents magnificent value for our members when compared with commercial gyms. Use of the gym will be regularly monitored to ensure that those who have contributed towards it get the best out of the facility. Underage Registration
Our underage registration evening is on the Friday 20th February at 7.30. Membership fees for juveniles should be paid at this event and cost £5 for juveniles from under 8 to minor level. This membership fee is compulsory and no young player will be allowed to play for a club team unless they have registered and paid. We would strongly encourage the parents of our underage players to show support for their children and the club by becoming members also.

A reminder that minor training continues indoor this Wednesday evening at 7. ALL members of our minor panel are expected to be there.

Our club shop is back up and running for 2015 on Monday and Friday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. A range of merchandise is available and we will be launching a number of new and exciting initiatives over the course of the year.

Membership is now due with costs frozen at 2014 rates- £20 for adults, £10 for students and OAPs and £5 for juveniles with Cairde members entitled to 2 adult members and two juvenile or student memberships. Membership is free for children under 6.

We will be holding another fashion extravaganza in the club on Friday 6th March so please mark this date in your diaries.

Gaelic for Girls
Last Saturday saw our Gaelic for Girls programme come to an end after eight very enjoyable weeks. There was another great turnout on Saturday which was rounded off with a mini-blitz and it was brilliant to see so many smiling faces and some great skills on display which the girls picked up over the course of the eight weeks. Following the mini-blitz all the girls were presented with a medal and certificate as recognition for all their hard work and commitment over the course of the programme. On behalf of the club, I would like to congratulate all the girls who took part and hope they all enjoyed the last eight weeks and hope to see as many of them as possible joining our underage girls’ teams for the season ahead. I would also like to thank all the coaches, young and old, who gave up their time to help out and make Gaelic for Girls programme the great success that it was. All t-shirts will be available for collection next Saturday in the club from 11.00am.
Senior Men
Our senior men continue to train every Tuesday and Thursday evening in preparation for the upcoming season. Training on Tuesday takes place at 7.15pm at the club with the Thursday sessions taking place in St Paul’s gym and players are asked to take £2.00 to cover the cost of the facilities.
Senior, Minor & U16 Ladies Training
A strength and conditioning training programme for the above ladies teams begins in Bessbrook Community Centre on Tuesday, 3rd February. These sessions will take place every Tuesday evening from 6.45pm – 7.45pm and Friday evening at 7.15pm, finishing on Friday, 13th March. Each session will cost £3.00 per person and is also open to all family and friends should they wish to attend. U14 girls who plan to play U16 football do not need to attend these sessions but can do so if they wish. The senior and minor teams this year will be looked after by Peter Lynch and Brendan McGuire with Yasmin Mackin and Siofra Doyle also helping out at minor level, whilst Peter Lynch, Yasmin Mackin, Anthony Sloan and Angela Jones will be looking after the U16 girls.
Minor Boys
All minor boys are asked to note that they should all be attending training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to take part in pre-season training along with the seniors. David and Ryan McCabe are looking after the minor boys this year and are encouraging all eligible players to get involved in these training sessions – no excuses.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys continue to train every Sunday morning at 10.30am at the club under the watchful eyes of David Muckian and Niall McGinn. All players are reminded to bring their £1.00 per week.
U14 Girls:
The U14s girls are now training evening Wednesday evening, at 7.00pm in Bessbrook Community Centre. This is for girls born in 2001 or after and new members are very welcome. Sarsfields’ second Ulster League game was on Friday night against Monaghan side Truagh Gaels. The Hoops opened the scoring with an early goal from full forward Paul McGeown, and with early scores from Johnny Reynolds and Thomas McAlinden, Sarsfields held a strong lead throughout the game. 15 minutes in came Truagh Gaels’ first scores from their corner forward and centre half forwards though Sarsfields lead a promising first half with closing score 4-2 to 0-3.
The second half was a better performance by the visiting team with Truagh Gaels scoring 1-5 before the High Moss men managed to put a score on the board. With three scores from Truagh’s number 11, the teams were sitting with Sarsfields only 4 points ahead before Colin Stevenson and Eamon McGeown maintained a comfortable lead. Michael Stevenson and substitute Paul Magee managed another two points with two in reply from the visiting team before Truagh’s goalkeeper denied Conan Murray a goal scoring opportunity. The home team finished strong with final score Sarsfields 4-8 Truagh Gaels 1-10.

The club’s annual dinner will take place on Saturday 21 February in the Bay Hall. Tickets available from any committee member
Membership for 2015 is now due. £20 for adults and £5 for under 18’s
A drugs and alcohol awareness talk will take place in the Hall this Tuesday 10 February at 7pm. This event is open to everyone in the community including parents, players, coaches, etc.
Coaching meeting this Wednesday night 11 February at 7.30pm. Kathy Crangle from the Ulster Council GAA will be in attendance.
Can all parents and players please note that all teams will be starting back training this week on the new training pitch. Cost is £1 per training session and only trainers or moulded studs can be worn. Please take this as official notice.
