It’s been a long and frustrating few months for football lovers but the wait is finally over for those
missing GAA action, as the Armagh Club Leagues got underway over the weekend.
Unfortunately, there were no spectators allowed due to Covid 19 regulations and you were missed.
For this week’s, The I on the Ball podcast, we spoke to Maghery clubman and long-serving Armagh star, Aidan Forker after his side shook the cobwebs off effectively with a welcome one-point home win over Champions Crossmaglen Rangers.
We talked all things GAA from Club to County and he filled me in on some over-enthusiastic training
during lockdown.
“I woke up one Sunday morning and I nearly fell to the floor. I couldn’t move.”
Aidan has recovered and is chomping at the bit to get stuck into club football and is looking forward to the last two Armagh League fixtures in October, with his admiration for manager Kieran McGeeney evident during our chat.
“The more I get to know him, the more impressed I am by him,” he stated.
We also spoke to another Armagh legend, the new Silverbridge manager, Ronan Clarke after his sides
impressive win over Mullaghbawn.
Given his history with both Armagh County and Club, Ronan is well-qualified to express his thoughts
on the GAA’s roadmap return to football.
“The GAA didn’t clarify their message at the start…But we got there in the end.”
He’s happy that Armagh football is back but is cautious at the same time.
“This could be the first game we play, and this could be the last.”
